When should I apply?
We have an open application period all year round, so you may apply at any time whether there is a position open or not. To apply for a specific open position, you MUST enter your online application, click on the OPEN JOBS link at the top of the page where you can view and APPLY for any specific open position.

How can I find out about open positions?
Within the online application, click on the header "Open Jobs" and you will be able to view and apply for open positions. You may also click on links to view detailed information about the job (click on the Job Number) or view the job description (click on the name of the open position). To add your name to the list of applicants being considered for a specific opening, including substitute employment, click on the word APPLY to the right of the open position title. You can view a summary of jobs you have applied for by clicking on the Summary tab.

May I apply for more than one position?
Certainly, you may apply for any open position for which you feel qualified and/or in which you are interested. You should monitor the open positions (from within your online application click on Open Jobs). For any position that is open you may view detailed information (click on the job number), view the job description (click on the job title) or add your name to the list of applicants being considered for that specific position by clicking on the word APPLY to the right of the position name.

How long is my application kept on file?
With our online application, all of our applications are stored electronically. We do not maintain paper files. As long as you have completed the Submit Application tab, your application will be considered. If you have not done that within ninety (90) days of the first time you registered with the system, your application will be deleted.  Once you have completed an application, you only need to update it annually to ensure that it remains active. We generally archive inactive applicants annually in January. To ensure that your file is "currently active" mark your calendar to update your application information during December each year.  If you do accept employment elsewhere and no longer wish to be considered please email to careers@hcbe.net with this information.

If I apply for a position and another similar position occurs after I apply, will I automatically be considered for that second position?
You should monitor the open positions (from within your online application click on Open Jobs). For any position that is open you may view detailed information (click on the job number), view the job description (click on the job title) or add your name to the list of applicants being considered for that specific position by clicking on the word APPLY to the right of the position name. You must APPLY for each job you are interested in to ensure consideration for that position.

Do I need to come in every time I want to apply for a position?
You do not have to come to Human Resources, but you are required to complete an online application. Be sure to enter data on the various tabs as applicable and you MUST complete the Submit Application tab in order for your application to be considered by Houston County Schools. When do you interview for positions that are shown as "open until filled"?
Houston County will interview as soon as there are sufficient qualified candidates to create an interview pool. With hard-to-fill positions, an interview may be scheduled with only a single qualified candidate if other qualified candidates are not available.

When do you post your open positions?
We post newly opened positions as they occur all year long. You should monitor the open positions (from within your online application click on Open Jobs). For any position that is open you may view detailed information (click on the job number), view the job description (click on the job title) or add your name to the list of applicants being considered for that specific position by clicking on the word APPLY to the right of the position name.

What kind of qualifications do I need to work in Houston County Schools?
Each position posting has a list of preferred and/or required qualifications needed to be eligible for that specific position. Click on the Open Jobs link within your online application to view open positions. For any position that is open you may view detailed information (click on the job number), view the job description (click on the job title) or add your name to the list of applicants being considered for that specific position by clicking on the word APPLY to the right of the position name.

What do I need to do to get released from my contract with my current school district employer?
If you have signed a contract with another school district/system, you must be released before signing a contract with Houston County Schools. Upon receiving a written offer of employment (Letter of Intent) from Houston County Schools, you must request in writing that your current school system release you from your contractual obligation. They will advise you whether you will be released and under what circumstances.

Are you actively recruiting minority applicants?

How will I be notified regarding an interview?
You will typically be notified by telephone from a school or department administrator when you have been selected for an interview for a specific open position.

Will I be able to work in a smoke-free environment?
Yes. Our System complies with State law, which prohibits the use of tobacco on any Houston County Schools property. We are committed to providing a tobacco-free environment for all. We also are committed to providing a safe environment, both weapon and drug free.

Do I need to be a citizen of the United States?
We will hire United States citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the United States in accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (Title 8,US Code, Section 1.324A). All new employees are required to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9), issued by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service, which requires documentation to establish this eligibility.

What if I do not have a current State certificate?
Any offer of employment for teaching or other positions requiring a certificate (school administrator, counselor, librarian, psychologist, etc) will be contingent upon you holding a valid Georgia State Certificate.
